Drone H-Pod Cutscene

In Ideation

Vibe: 80s/90s anime — cinematic, cosmic, serious. Reusable shot template for other pilots (Sekarri, Marta, etc.).

A short, punchy cutscene of Straker entering an H-Pod and connecting to his drone vehicle for the first time. The whole sequence should feel like an opening title beat — closer to Macross Plus or Akira than a tutorial loading screen. The same shot list can be re-skinned for other pilots later (different face, different rig, different hair animation), so it's worth investing in a clean reusable structure now.

Beat-by-Beat Shot List

  1. Slow camera move over Straker's face. He's serious, locked in. Background pans behind him — either stars / cosmic space, or the hangar interior drifting past.
  2. Snap to black. Hard cut, single beat of silence.
  3. Letterbox close-up: his eyes blinking. Two slow blinks, anime-style narrow band across the screen.
  4. High-tech oxygen mask drops down from above, sealing onto his face. Single sharp clamp/hiss.
  5. Water rises behind him. Side profile shot — we see the amniotic fluid fill the pod, glow refracting through it.
  6. Straker tapping buttons. Electric "fireflies" zip across the frame, lens flares streak. Cyber-glow blues and teals.
  7. Iron-Man-style rig assembly. Mental shoulder pads clip on, wires snake into his mask, harness locks. Clean mechanical click-on shots.
  8. Fist up, pulls down a roof lever. (That lever can be what triggered the water in beat 5 — flashback or causal cut.)
  9. Cut back to his eyes. They flare from brown to blue, white halo glow blooming outward.
  10. Cosmic collapse. Procedurally generated stars / fireflies on jet black collapse inward into a single point of light, then expand outward to fill the screen in pure white.
  11. "CONNECTION ESTABLISHED" — text appears centred as the white settles.
  12. Digital voice: "Greetings, Drone Commander."

Art Brief — Static Pieces I Need

Animation is limited to what the artist already does well: 4–6 frame loops (hair blowing, blinking, water sloshing, a flicker). Everything else is camera work, layering, and effects done in code. So the art bill is mostly still images, layered cleanly so I can pan, mask, fade, and recolour them programmatically.

Character Stills (Straker)

  • Serious face, three-quarter, plain background (for beat 1)
  • Letterbox eyes — eyes-open and eyes-closed frames for blink loop (beat 3)
  • Side profile bust, neutral expression (beat 5)
  • Hands tapping a console (beat 6) — layered so we can flash effects on top
  • Fist raised, gripping a lever (beat 8)
  • Eye close-up — brown variant + blue-glow variant (beat 9)

Rig & Environment Stills

  • Oxygen mask asset (closed/clamped state) for the drop-down (beat 4)
  • H-Pod interior — side profile, transparent panel for the water column
  • Shoulder-pad pieces & wire harness, ideally as separate layers
  • Roof lever asset
  • Water column — tileable / liftable so I can raise it via code

Tiny Animations (4–6 frames)

  • Eye blink loop
  • Hair blowing in air-cycle wind
  • Water surface slosh / refraction shimmer

FX — Code-Driven (no art needed)

  • Camera pan / slow zoom over stills
  • Lens flares & firefly particles
  • Letterbox bars in/out
  • Snap-to-black, white bloom expansion
  • Eye colour shift & glow halo (procedural overlay)
  • Procedural star-collapse → point-of-light → white fill
  • Text crawl: "CONNECTION ESTABLISHED"

Audio & VO

// H-Pod — Voice "Connection established. Greetings, Drone Commander."

Reusability Notes

More scenes will land here as they hit the design stage. Next likely: Sekarri H-Pod variant & Marta first-connection.
